Course Baggers

Boy, if only this person knew the amount of interest they've created. Their ears have gotta be burning.

I agree with Olorin. They probably just finally got around to updating their list. My problem is, with that many courses I'd be afraid of having forgotten several. So maybe there's a teeny chance this person's a fraud but, to what end?

wasnt anything crazy, I remember it being 260-275 range.

Sure....not crazy at all.

My best days have been around 100 holes, because they're round trip days. I'm hard pressed to remember half the holes the next day.

I've recently started using my phone to record voice notes as I play a course, usually as I'm walking between holes, or when I'm driving to the next course. It helps with the reviews, because I paste the transcripts into a document and start editing.

I wonder if anyone has ever thought about a top 10 "holes played in a day times current age"

So 100 holes at age 25 is great. 100 holes at age 60? Wow...260 holes at ANY age? Incredible--that's plus driving, navigating, etc. Truly epic.

Best I've done is 3 rounds at Toboggan in a 24 hour period at age 55 (it was back to back days but still within 24 continuous hours total--is that cheating?).
I would love to do red, white, blue, and gold at Maple Hill in one day. Not sure I own enough discs though. Or tylenol.

I kinda like this...
Last year, when I was 62, I played 144 holes (8 courses) in one day at the NC Great 8. 144 holes is nothing compared to the record, but I'm pretty sure that I'm the oldest player to play this event.

If you can come up with a more accurate count, here are the records for the most unique holes in one day:

Most distinct holes played in 24 hours:

1) 500 holes, by Dan Schnabel and Mike Sale on 6/30-7/1/2016 in the Twin Cities Area of MN (417 holes played during daylight hours, 83 during nighttime hours) ~ 40 courses

2) 380 holes, Alan Hansen Begg, on 6/22/2004, in the Twin Cities area of MN. ~33 courses

3) 327 holes, John Kretzschmar, on 6/22/2004, in the Twin Cities area of MN

4) 306 holes, 2003, in the Twin Cities area of MN

5) 280 holes on 20 courses. Justin McLuen (Clue), Steve Kenton (Special K), and Jason Neifert (Neif) played 20 different courses in one day on June 22, 2002. Kansas City, MO. 7 courses were 9 holes, 3 were 12 holes, 9 were 18 holes, 1 was 19 holes.

6) 252 holes, on 16 courses. by Jerry Robbins, age 63, in Kansas City. 4 courses were 9 holes and 12 course were 18 holes. A few courses were temporary. (6/2002)

I've been using the voice notes for a while to record course notes, good idea.
Haven't tried pasting them into a doc, will have to try that next time!!

I've bagged 23 courses in a day with a few others in Minneapolis a few years ago. Would of got more but it was on a weekend and they got tired. oh well.

Jesus man.. how is that even possible in 24 hours especially if you're bagging more than 3 long and advanced 18+ hole courses.

My arm and legs begin to fall off after 4 18+ hole courses with some good distance as I always play from the intermediate or pro teepads.

Then again, I guess it's pretty doable as long as the courses aren't all extremely hilly to the point where you're going up and down and up and down every single hole. The most I've played in one day is 8 courses and I was absolutely done after the 8th one lol

Wow--all these are mind-boggling to me. Especially #1 and #6. Just the raw distance walked (or run?) would have to be over a marathon in length. Man, the bending over alone that many times would quite literally pass me out.

I will say this--for some reason I want to get in better shape now, and plan out some epic 300+ hole day. 328 would get one into 3rd place--that's a podium finish right? :)

Seems like 18 hole courses would be easier since less traveling? I do live in an area where there are lots of courses, and traffic is typically light. I imagine playing each course with something like a roc (I have played many courses with just a roc) would be the trick for minimizing bag fatigue. Score is not important obviously, though the fewer the # of throws the less bending over, and less arm wear. Imagine 70% power throws or so would be good--better control, more direct lines toward each basket?

Just planning out such a 24 hour deal would be awesome, figuring out which courses could be played in the dark would be a hoot--without attracting police attention, no rough, etc.

Couple thoughts--this might be harder today than in the years on this list, as the sport is much more popular. June 21st would be the day with the most daylight, but also quite hot, so maybe a cool day in May would be best?

What other tips can folks think of?

So if a bagger focuses on the highest # of courses played, what would a person with a high # holes played in a 24 hour period be called? Holer?

I agree too mostly because he's got extinct courses marked as played in 2022 so not sure why he'd claim to play courses that don't exist anymore unless he's just now getting around to adding them which makes sense.. I did that with a few extinct layouts when I created this account last summer.

All those WI courses and none at Highbridge? Guy's a fraud :p

I wouldn't put a whole lot of stock into the "dates played" part. Anyone who joins or gets around to putting a bunch of previously-played courses in, is likely to use the same or similar dates for them. I'm sure that when I joined, having already played for a dozen years and made a number of trips around the country, I just approximated some dates and took wild guesses at others. (If that was even a field, at the time).

I did the same when I first joined a few years ago. Some of my reviews were from courses I played 15 years ago and I posted the reviews for fun and to try to contribute. I was innocent and didn't realize there was such a thing as course bagging or people who really really take reviews hyper serious.

Some of the pro reviewers took great offense, and this was around the time that guys like prerube and others took great delight at doing the elitist gatekeeper trolling thing and it was a huge turnoff. I felt like I was coming into a private club rather than a public forum.

I have great respect for people who take their reviews seriouslyand i can see that they feel they are doing a great public service. At the end of the day it is still just a game and fun. No need to chase others away simply because their reviews don't meet the standards y'all have set for yourselves. Just one man's opinion of course.

For many years, we would print of PDGA Course Directory courses for road trips. I saved them all in a binder. When discovering DGCR, I then input those pages here.

Don't we have a frequent poster here from central Wisco who hasn't played Highbridge? Hell, Highbridge was at the top of my hit list for years, but I could never commit to making the trip up there without knowing if JJ would have more than one course mowed. Once mountain man executed his hostile takeover/liberation, I was up there the following summer.

If the guy's legit, I expect the same issues that kept a lot of people away from Highbridge in the JJ years also kept him away.

There's this one bagger, reneecwest, who claims to have played over 300 courses since October 2020. Including some that were extinct all that time. We have so many courses in common, and she has so few that I haven't played, it's almost like she looked at my list and copied them in wholesale.

Pretty suspicious if you ask me.

Just looked at both your played lists and yea.. there's definitely something weird going on.

Maybe Steve's got a secret admirer.

... or a stalker. :\

Hard to know until you see them.
If they're cute = secret admirer.
If they're creepy looking = stalker.

It's possible she's been playing for years but only joined in 2020, and backfilled all the courses she had played. Still suspicious, but not unreasonable.
