Great Midwestern Tour – Late Fall Edition

Dubuque Veterans Memorial Park, ably guided by BuiltTooLong. Very fun course, and thanks for the tour guide services!

Nubbs Nine - also fun, despite some future lawsuit holes (throwing OVER a pavilion, etc.).

I was sad to drive by Veterans Hills and Justin Trails in the impending darkness. Oh well. The unglaciated part of Wisconsin is quite lovely.

Probably family stuff tomorrow and then see what the weather looks like for the weekend.

I had a great time :hfive:, happy I was able to make it work. Glad you enjoyed the course, I'm very proud of what its becoming. Enjoy the rest of your trip!

Played Kaposia and North Valley before the dog started shivering. Enjoyed Kaposia the most.

Forgot to quote Wolfhaley, but I appreciated the course ranking!

One of the nice things about Kaposia is that is mostly in the woods and therefore somewhat sheltered from the wind. Elm is being too harsh on the Valley. I think it's a solid 3.25 - 3.5.

Thanks for the recommendations! North Valley was pleasant, agree on 3.25-ish from the mix-and-match of tees and baskets I played.

or of course kaposia and lakewood

Kaposia, check. Lakewood will have to wait for another visit.

You should be proud, that was a fun spin. Thanks again!

Not sure whether I'll try to bang out some Eau Claire courses, or try to hit Brickyard and Lambs Creek next. Probably depends on family plans and the weather.

Thanks for the warning! I did check out the weather beforehand and packed some layers, but I expect a 40-degree drop in temperature to be a bit of a shock. Just have to keep it moving to stay warm I guess.

Looks like a family dinner on Sunday, so Minneapolis-St. Paul will be scaled back to a day trip on Saturday. I know at least one person is not available until Sunday, so apologies for that.

Probably just stay in the southeast part of the cities. Thinking Kaposia and North Valley, with Brickyard on the way back to Chippewa Falls. But I am certainly open to other suggestions.

Ah, bummer.
Enjoy the family. Come back for BRP another trip and we'll make that work.

Glad you got to see Kaposia though.

Chilling with family today, probably hit Braem Park on the way to Menomonee Falls tomorrow.

Hoping for a bagging day on Wednesday. :D

Uh, throw Frisbees anyway? ;)

Well that's a given. Frozbees seems more apt in those conditions. Interesting putting with frozen hands and 278 gram putter's though, welcome to WI :p

Char had a blast and it was nice meeting the other little guy. My mom has had pugs for years, on and off. She just recently got a brindle pug which I've never seen before. Safe travels the rest of the trip, and keep us updated as usual

I wonder what the record for the # DGCR folks met for first time on a single road trip is? Monocacy is on a nice run.

Thanks! I do enjoy meeting screen names in real life. :)

But on the bad news side . . . spousal unit broke her ankle so we are heading home early. :(

She is doing well, all considered, but we will not be breaking any "DGCR folks met" records this trip. :\

Awww geez, that's awful man. Hope for a speedy recovery.

Sorry to hear that. Hope she heals quickly and without complications.

Are you going to share the story of...how?

Carrying the Pug down carpeted stairs in wet socks and slipped. Broke tibia and fibula. Fortunately sis-in-law volunteers at the hospital a couple blocks away.

(I would normally be reluctant to share medical info but she posted the X-ray on bookface . . .)

Hope she's doing well (as can be, of course). It was nice meeting Mrs. Monocacy for the first time. Surprised it wasn't one of us that this happened to in those less than ideal conditions tbh.

Anyway, tell her me and Alyssa hope she has a speedy recovery

Give my best to her as well. I suppose the beginning of winter is a better time for it to happen, than the beginning of any other season...
