There's no way he alone is going to be able to slow proceedings down enough for the lead card to catch up. If play is generally slow on all the cards and the leaders close the gap, that's one thing. But one player doesn't have that kind of ability. Besides, if his card falls too far off the pace and loses ground to the card in front of them, the whole card could be at risk of penalty (Competition Manual 3.02)
