[Question] The DGCR mold: lid geometries discussion

The aspects that matter to me:

PDGA LEGAL: yes, please

NEUTRALITY: neutral

DIAMETER: I would prefer not larger than a Comet

RIM DEPTH: shallow

I don't care for the rest.

PDGA LEGAL: Oh yeah

GLIDE: Medium or slightly lower

NEUTRALITY: On the stable side of neutral

DIAMETER: I'd Like something right between a Birdie and a Zephyr

RIM DEPTH: A tad shallower than a birdie

THUMTRAC: I like the mini-groove like on the Scale, yet i'd be kinda interested in GT lid, like a buzzz GT

RINGS OF HEDRICK: Either way

RAISED CENTER: Nah

DOME: I'd take flat or maybe a slight dome

OVERMOLD: Why not both? :D

RIM "BEAD" RADIUS: IDK

BEVELED EDGE: No true LID needs a bevel IMO

INTERNAL RIM TO FLIGHTPLATE TRANSITION RADIUS: I say large-medium

PLUS RIM: IDK what a plus rimmed lid would even look like to be honest

WEIGHTS: Somewhat. I like max weight but i do see the value of a light lid.

Man i'm excited to throw this disc already

My dream... a polecat with a super micro bead and a micro thumb track... more of a dent.

I tallied 32 responses throughout this thread. I had to interpret some of the answers and made a few assumptions. Example, when I received input like this:
My dream... a Comet flight plate with a Polecat rim.
I had to make a few assumptions like this:

10 said Polecat style which is flatter but has a decent radius leading up to the flat
5 said rounded
1 said micro bead
1 said big bead
15 did not respond but I don't feel like I explained this category very well

BEVELED EDGE:
16 said no
7 said a very faint bevel was the most they'd want

INTERNAL RIM TO FLIGHTPLATE TRANSITION RADIUS:
7 said smaller radius
5 said larger radius

PLUS RIM:
21 said no

^ great tally! Thanks! It looks like there may be a couple things we still want to hammer out/vote on, such as depth. Looks like we've narrowed it down to between 1.3-1.6. Dome might need a pole since that's tied for top currently, and maybe bead radius?

Long time member long time lid thrower. My imput.

PDGA LEGAL: definately.

GLIDE: medium to high

NEUTRALITY: neutral! I like your definitions.

DIAMETER: 22cm ish. Loved whitlers, but they were borderline too big for golf. If we don't go putter size make sure its big enough to be superclass legal!

RIM DEPTH: not much of a lid unless its a little deep. Somewhere between a birdie/rattler and polecat is ideal for me

SHOULDER: more square. Zephyr/polecat/temoko please

THUMTRAC: no thumb track. I love my berg and bangers, but better to keep them off the lids. Probably best for molding/glide anyway.

RINGS OF HEDRICK: I like them, but they are not a selling point

RAISED CENTER: not necessary. Its the closest I woulf really want to a thumb track.

DOME: Mild to medium Dome

OVERMOLD: traditional is fine. Line shaping is probably best without. I threw ions a long time but they just always wanted to push straight, great for a driving putter but not a lid. Curious to see how the beetle flys with the overmold. I worry discs would need to be more stable than I want to help shape lines.
RIM "BEAD" RADIUS: rounded for longer wear

BEVELED EDGE: no bevel

INTERNAL RIM TO FLIGHTPLATE TRANSITION RADIUS: nice and square. Mostly fan grip these discs so its not a deal breaker.

PLUS RIM: no thanks

WEIGHTS: 150-180g is the best. No need to go lighter

PDGA LEGAL: for sure

GLIDE: medium/high

NEUTRALITY: stable or neutral out of the box

DIAMETER: ≤22cm

RIM DEPTH: 1.3 - 1.5 cm

SHOULDER: very lightly rounded to square

THUMTRAC: no thanks

RINGS OF HEDRICK: no thanks

RAISED CENTER: HELLS no

DOME: flat

OVERMOLD: no need to over-complicate

RIM "BEAD" RADIUS: small radius

BEVELED EDGE: no bevel, or very slight

INTERNAL RIM TO FLIGHTPLATE TRANSITION RADIUS: small radius

PLUS RIM: plus rim is a minus

WEIGHTS: I like heavy upshot discs

PDGA LEGAL: Yes!
GLIDE: High
NEUTRALITY: Stable
DIAMETER: Small
RIM DEPTH: 1.4ish
SHOULDER: Slight Round
THUMTRAC: No
RINGS OF HEDRICK: No
RAISED CENTER: No
DOME: No
OVERMOLD: No
RIM "BEAD" RADIUS: Rounded
BEVELED EDGE: Faint at most
INTERNAL RIM TO FLIGHTPLATE TRANSITION RADIUS: Smaller
PLUS RIM: No
WEIGHTS: low of 150

So almost all of these talking points seem to be settled but please let me know if I accidentally overlooked something:

PDGA LEGAL: yes
GLIDE: it looks like we are aiming for medium to max glide
NEUTRALITY: neutral, possibly starting out ever-so-slightly on the OS side of neutral
DIAMETER: based on the min/max values, it seems like 22cm is the way to go
RIM DEPTH: based on the min/max values and the bias towards shallow it seems like 1.35cm is a good compromise
SHOULDER: square but I will likely make it slightly more radiused than a Polecat
RINGS OF HEDRICK: no, not on this go-'round
RAISED CENTER: no, not on this go-'round
DOME: individual pulls from the same mold can vary from pancake flat to pop-top. I will aim for very slight dome and, by manipulating various process variables, expect enough variance to hopefully please everyone.
OVERMOLD: no, not on this go-'round
RIM "BEAD" RADIUS: I will aim for Polecat-ish and maybe increase the radius slightly
BEVELED EDGE: no, not on this go-'round
INTERNAL RIM TO FLIGHTPLATE TRANSITION RADIUS: it will get a small to medium radius
PLUS RIM: no, not on this go-'round
WEIGHTS: its apparent that people want light weights available. I will try to see what materials we have to work with and make sure the volume of the disc will allow for some decently light weights. I'm hoping for a lower limit of at least 150g. I need info from the manufacturer in order to make this happen.

I will be happy to create some CAD models once we can reach a consensus on this one talking point:
THUMTRAC:
12 said no Thumtrac or equivalent
14 said they wanted something: (8 RDG style) (4 Thumtrac) (2 Sinus style)
This thread has already simulated a poll on the subject and it is an even split. How does DGCR want to resolve this talking point?

my suggestion:
As a compromise, what does DGCR think of the idea of incorporating some faint Juju-style divots (or similar) for those that want to use them but enough area in between the divots so that you can avoid them if you want the feel of a traditional flight plate?
Sample:
juju-500x500.jpg

I'm really looking forward to moving forward with this awesome DGCR project :)

I mentioned before and thought the idea was stellar, may have gotten glossed over. How about texture pads ala latitudes sinus?

Juju divots is an interesting idea. Maybe 3 max?

Your Sinus pads were included in the original tally. If DGCR wants this feature to be included then it is an easy addition; they could easily go between the Juju divots.

DGCR? What do y'all want? Cast your votes :)

a shallower 3 pad juju style would be unique but welp...
I'm not sure I understand what you're getting at here... thumbs up or down?
