I've only tried this shot a few times, and would never do it competitively, but a pro at my local course taught me this one.
We have one hole that's a tight, low-ceiling gap from the tee, then turns 90 degrees left after ~75 feet. The obvious thing to do is throw a drone/hornet/buzz/zone to hook around the corner for your 2nd shot. However, this pro showed me his technique on this hole. He holds the disc just like a grenade, but throws it with anny into the ground ~40 feet in front of him. The disc will come out of the anny quickly and start to hyzer just as it hits the ground. This results in a mega-sweet-looking skip that jumps 10 feet into the air and travels 40 feet left (RHBH).
If he hits his line as planned, he'll always be sitting better than everybody who threw a simply hyzer shot.
What type of discs can you use for this shot?
Lol @ Skunk, I am pretty sure I have seen you throw that shot on hole 8 at Oakbrook to get out of the trees left of the basket.
greg id assume something on the overstable side of the spectrum...remember i threw almost that exact shot on 23.B [tyler, pa] the other day on my 2nd shot? i was in the brush left up and around the curve after a decent drive, and skipped it down towards the basket where i lost that JOKERi
i just added the overhand roller with the zone. holding the zone vertical with a forehand grip, throw it on an arc that'll land 100' away (or w/e you want). if you get enough snap on it, it'll roll a long ways after it lands. you can go over obstacles, or just vertical through thick woods. it's basically a tomahawk that doesn't pan, and rolls on a smooth straight line after it lands.
probably posted already, but this is my version
^ have you tried it with other discs of different speed? Do you think other overstable putters would work like this too, or is the zone more mid like?
I want to take my vp outside right now and give it a whirl.
How much snap are you looking for? How high in the air?
