[MVP] MVP VOLT - The Comprehensive Thread

I got my Volt, finally, on Thursday and due to incliment weather (something about some hurricane or something...), RN school, and work, I've been forced to admire it indoors and only dream of the things I can do with it.

It is a beauty though, 173g (marked 175g by the disc store...) and white interior with a black outer rim. Classy. It feels perfect in my hand. I'm pretty desperate to give it a snap or fifty. I'm going to play my first round with it as the only driver in the bag and see what happens. I want it to fly 500' and shape any line while avoiding trees, water, and rocks and powering down to a basket seeking missile on anything under 300'.

My expectations may be a little high, but the guy selling me the disc assured me it has a creamy dragon blood center and was spun from the purest gossamer soft hair of angels... So it has to be good.

i got my 3 volts today but the weather will not allow me to go throw them, my 171 and 172 are nice and flat but my 167 is very concave, anyone else have this problem? Not sure how to flatten this neutron plastic out

What I have used was 3 cups of boiling water. Lay the disc on a counter so its flat and pour water in the disc, give a few minutes, remove water and let cool. Usually does the trick.

EVERY disc they have released has replaced a spot in my bag.

First the Ion replaced my Magnets, and Aviars
Then the Axis/Vector Replaced my Rocs
Finally the Volt is most likely going to replace my Eagle/River... i know thats a huge gap to fill, but i think the Volt can do it, i just need to test it more, i have only had it out for 9 holes so far... =] Time will tell, but so far its hard not to pick it up hole after hole after seeing how versatile it can be and the lines i can shape with it, from hyzer, to anhyzer, to straight as an arrow... its amazing.

I don't hype things for no reason. I use these discs in local tournaments and win consistently. I wouldn't being using these discs if they weren't better than what i was using before, or if i knew of something that was better for me.

Whoa, calm down lol
I never once said anything negative about MVP as a company or the volt as a disc. My comments were about the homers specifically. Not sure how that was a troll, but oh well.

Anywho, there are discs out there for everyone, the ones you like, others may not. Im glad you guys likethe volt. I havent thrown one yet. Ill post about it when i do. However, it is funny readin your guys reviews everytime a new mbp mold comes out. Leaves me with a "whatll they think of next?" Feeling.

Im calm bud :)
And i never called you a troll or thought you were trolling in the first place..?
I think im as confused as you are right now, lol lets take a deep breath and hold our MVP plastic shal we?

:hfive: -- Sorry if i came off as not being calm

Way flippier than I thought it would be. To me it flew just like a champ valk. Holds a turn well, but very little if any fade. Very straight on a hyzerflip. Was raining so I didn't get very may throws, verdict is still out.

Finally got to take this out for some field work today and wasn't particularly blown away like I had hoped. I got a Red 170 and there was no flip but I'm also a mile high so that is a factor on the stability. At altitude my teebird distance is about 360, Anodes are 300-330 and the Volt was barely breaking 330 on any line. I'll likely have a different opinion when I'm down at sea level this week and everything gets flippy.

I don't know what weight DiscNation's distance estimates have, but this has about as much distance as anything for intermediate players, just edging out the Kite and Archangel.

I've never thrown any of these discs, although a Volt is on the way.

I got mine in yesterday but got to throw them today, I ordered a few discs

Soft Proton Anode
Neutron Axis
2x Skully 173 Volts

I didn't throw them a whole lot, maybe a little over a half dozen each (2x for volts ofc). The wind was a little breezy, but not bad. Good test of mild tailwind and mild headwind.

The volt for me is definitely more around -2/2 or -2/1, but it's kind of tricky. It flips, but doesn't flip over. I would liken it to a nicely beat in *Destroyer for a power thrower. I couldn't necessarily put it on a bead, just laser down the middle, but it held a nice S curve without ever flipping into a roller. I threw hyzer flips, hyzers, anhyzers, and distance anhyzers.

It's not a great wind disc. I'm not saying it flipped over, but it doesn't feel like it penetrates into the wind as well as some others. My distances were severely hindered throwing into a headwind, although it was able to still hold lines in the wind.

What it can do:
-Long slow hyzers (flattened hyzer) - About 400'
-Hyzer flip with just a little tracking right before it gently fades. - Again about 400' or a little over
-Slow anhyzer (tailwind) -Up to 500' distance line
This is where it gets a little different from every other disc I've thrown. When I threw it on a distance line, it looked like it was turning hard and would flip over into a roller. But it didn't, it just held the hard turn. Maybe I've miraculously gotten down the distance line with this disc, but since I was kind of cold (and sick), I highly doubt it.
-I powered down on it once, and it still flew on a small S (headwind) from a hyzerflip.

I was expecting it to be a little bit more stable, but I do really like what I'm throwing.

As for the Anode and Axis, just what I wanted :D

Just thought I would drop my 2¢. First off, I ordered mine through Community Discs. Justin didn't have exactly what I wanted but we came up with a good compromise. I will definitely buy from him again.

TLTR: good disc

I'm a 90% FH thrower with not that much power. 310-320' on average, but controlled. I bought two volts, one 170, the other 171. First flights with both landed within 5' of each other with a flat release. Distance-wise they were around my average. What I experienced was the same as some others in that this disc can hold whatever line you put it on. Learning what I can do with this disc has been an will continue to be fun.

On 85-90% throws, they flew the entire flight on the line I threw them (almost). Flat release, flew straight with just a touch of fade. Hyzer and anhyzer release, held the line to the ground. Each throw resulted in my max, controlled distance. Side note, I have a low release and my flights rarely go any higher than 15' off the deck. If I powered up to 95% with a hyzer release, it flipped to flat and faded forward about 5' off centerline for an almost entirely straight flight. With a flat release, it just kept a slow turn all the way to the ground. The anhyzer release that I tried didn't fair very well. I didn't give it enough air to flex back but it also didn't turn-and-burn. It just held the anny and hit the dirt about 200' out. The hyzer-flip resulted in my longest drive to date: ~350'. I out-drove a hole that I usually just get to pin-high on a good throw by 30'. (made the putt too)

Others have said that this disc powers down well. I can vouch for that. For me, it was as easy to throw at 40% as it was at 90%. Others have also said that the volt doesn't fair too well into a headwind. It's definitely not a headwind fighter. It wasn't catastrophic but it won't replace your headwind driver. It just doesn't push through the wind. Tailwinds though, they flew very well.

That was my limited testing today. I'm going to be testing it some more to make sure today wasn't a fluke. If it wasn't a fluke, I can see a few discs that are in my bag headed for storage. For me, this disc has been one of the least finicky discs I've thrown. It handled some of my throws that were bad because of OAT but not enough to either mask the problem or result in a turn-and-burn.

Final thoughts: for me, the volt has been one of the easiest discs to get used to. I've never had this high of a success rate with a disc I've never thrown before.

Not picking sides or anything, but honestly, all of the MVP homers have said that exact thing about every disc they have released, hard to take youguys seriously anymore

Not sure how that was a troll, but oh well.

This is the internet so you never know for sure the exact tone or context of someone's words. Above I highlighted terms I found charged, polarizing("picking sides"/grouping individuals who like MVP in one big group and labeling them, and using hyperbole (ironically with the term "honestly") with absolutes like "all", "exact", and "every"...These are common characteristics of troll posts hence my calling it one.

You come far short of the label troll on here Pwingles as you are a regular contributor of good info on DGCR, but reread your post above and tell me that it doesn't function as a troll post (even if not intended).

I totally agree with the above reviews regarding the Volt's wind performance...It doesn't straight fail like a lot of understable gliding discs do, but you should have better discs to deal with wind. This is why I feel like the Volt pairs so well with the PD, but it would pair just as well with a lot of other slightly overstable long fairway/control drivers(OLF, TB, Avenger, Boatman, (Lat64 needs a better disc in this category BTW)).

DS, you know, as well as I, that there are people here that have a crazy sense of unwarranted brand loyalty. The term for them that I use is 'Homer'. Its not exclusive to MVP brand by any means. There are also several who like MVP stuff for what it is, and appreciate what they do but arent blindly loyal to a disc just because its MVP. Those are the 'sides' i wasnt trying to identify myself with.

It just makes me chuckle when you look at threads from past mvp releases, and every disc is the best disc ever made, and whenever anyone questions that, theyre labeled as a troll.

Anyway, i am looking forward to throwing the volt and giving it an unbiased review. Im not a fan of MVPs putters for putting, for throwing i like them a lot. I threw their mids some, i wish the vectors had continued to be OS like the first runs, i think they would compliment the Axis more that way. I do howver think that the neutron plastic on a driver will be the first disc of theirs I wont struggle to get used to. At the moment it doesnt really fit in my bag based on the reviews here, but if its good enough, it'll earn a spot.

I had a hard time finding my orange Volts in the dead grass in the field I was testing them at. They seemed to camouflage too well.

This is just an excuse to buy a hot pink one for my next disc purchase.

:D
