2024 chess.com Invitational

Did Missy hit the cameraman and go OB? Or how did the disc move that way?

While Magnus Samuelsson was a great strongman and one of the best of his era, I wouldn't call him the GOAT 😋

In other news, that's Magnus Carlsen (maybe the illegitimate love child of Magnus Samuelsson and Svend Karlsen?).
I remember watching Magnus Samuelsson. He was a really fiery competitor; very entertaining. Four time World's Strongest Man Magnus Ver Magnusson had a delightful name that was easy to remember. The Icelandic version of Johnny Johnson Jr.

Woo hoo, what a round for Eveliina! To beat the field by 5 strokes is amazing.
I was pulling for Holyn, but she just hasn't figured out how to close out a tournament yet. When she does she should be regular winner.

Insane scoring spreead in FPO- - Eveliina beat 10th place Paige P by 19 throws!! in just 3 rounds
Cat A had a bad 2023- -and it does not look good to start 2024 being 33 throws behind in just 54 holes!!

18/27 C1X feels like the sort of jump that would make her a winner on tour a few times this season, based on where she's finished in tournaments these last few years with such rough putting. She was a 57% C1X putter last season. An additional, what, 2-3 strokes per event? She only lost PCS by 3 shots last year. She lost Throw Pink by 2 shots. And those were the only ones of her top-5 finishes I clicked on.

This is remotly mapped from Minnesota. Wondering what I could do if I could afford to be there in person? Drop zone is in the right place and the OB landing area is scaled much better and in proportion. I also wonder how the commentary would change if they had detailed charts. I have not heard a single mention of the minimum distance to land in bounds or the distance from drop zone 1 to the basket.

I loved watching Magnus Samuelsson, I caught a few of his competitions when I was a kid and when I got back into watching strongman a decade or two later I went back and watched all the big comps from the early 80s onwards and got to see his progression. Definitely a top 20 of all time, and his arm wrestling and grip strength side hobbies were cool too, seen him in a couple of Swedish movies since.

MVM is also a really nice guy, I've competed in powerlifting at his gym a couple of times, one time he was the head judge and another he was competing, did like a 550 lbs bench press at 50+ years of age. Fun fact, there's another Icelandic strongman called Magnús Magnússon, brother of former deadlift world record holder Benedikt Magnússon.

And she even layed that last putt up from like 12', with the way she was putting she probably would've made it.

Congrats to Barela!
It looked like he was going to give it away again, but he held on. Good for him!!!
I'm not too sure about that chessboard trophy. It seems like a chess piece: King, Queen or Knight would have been sweet.
Maybe a King for the MPO, Queen for the FPO?

The only thing i dont like about this course is the amount of blind shots, which doesnt film well, nor spectate well i would imagine.
Including some blind OB, meaning it requires spotters everywhere for events at least, or sending "bob" to spot for rec play.

So, does anyone have any info on the Proto Prince Ricky was seen throwing a couple times in the 1st round on Jomez? Westside? Couldn't really tell - is it a mid? Flight numbers?

I'd guess it'll be like a 13 speed Sword, beat in Rive kind of flight numbers.

Confidence on the green may make her less aggressive on tee shots and not try to park everything. She was able to park a lot of tee shots & approaches this tournament so her putting stats are a bit misleading. She didn't make a putt outside C1 all 3 rounds if the stat keeping is accurate - maybe intentionally laying up/not running those outside C1 putts? Parking 13/54 holes all 3 rounds and averaged under 10ft per putt made was a bit easier mentally.

Congrats to Barela!

Both winners kinda got a weight lifted off their back which is nice to see. I like the idea of a usable trophy instead of a wall hanging or something to put in a case. They can use the chessboard as they travel the country as well and it doesn't occupy a lot of space. I didn't see any closeups of the chessboard - were there any customizations or details on it? Maybe a customization will be added with their names & event details on it at some point.

Was Lynds outspoken against Ryan being allowed to play? (I didn't follow that situation)
The Lynds twins were both somewhat outspoken, but their mother was by far more vocal about it, to the point of infantilizing her own daughters, saying there was no way possible they could throw far enough to take a 4 on a 1000 foot hole, after Natalie did that.

how are people quickly finding the tourney scores

i used to type into google "udisc live" and everything would immediately pop up

now it feels like im either searching forever/too many clicks or it errors out

Was Natalie the only player to do it?

The UDisc Live calendar only has tour events in it. The PDGA calendar has all tiers in it. Seems like they'll need to create a special sub-calendar for tour events where the latest results pop up when you enter it. Maybe it will go on a separate server if that helps manage the traffic overload brown-out they had on day 2 (if that was the issue).

yah before it was dead simple to see the scores on udisc

now its clicking and investigating and it just kills the buzz

too hard to access probably leads to ppl not caring and losing their interest

when i tried to check some scores it said some gateway error or something along the lines of that (cant remember which day tho)
