Losing Plastic

wow thats a lot of plastic! sucks about the gators...

...the one that had me the maddest was a DX Roc...an amazing well-seasoned turnover disc. Took 6 months of careful tree hits and rock skips and dirt landings and grassy field polishing to get it that way...

buy a comet and this won't happen :)

comet=close enough to a beat roc for this guy :hfive:

My wife and I live by the creedo, "No man (disc) left behind." So to that end in 3+ years of playing we've lost less than a dozen discs between the 2 of us. We search for hours, days if we lose one. Hmmm... Now that I think a little more, maybe over a dozen, but not too much over. It is costly to lose discs and some do have slight sentimental attachments in that you had it perfectly beat in and it filled a perfect spot in the bag.

you should add that course to the site...sounds interesting and Im sure we'd love to see photos and know more about it.....(some might risk retrieving your discs)

Soon... we've got 14 holes in so far. I'm in the process of developing a website for the course, so I'll post a link here when it's finished. It's going to be a monster when it's completed (the course that is). It's also the course for the 2011 Southern Nationals Disc Golf Championships (August 2011), so bring extra plastic.

I once seen an episode of Dirty Jobs where a guy collected golf balls from ponds loaded with gators and snakes. This guy made quite the living. You need to learn about these animals and go get yours and everybody elses plastic. Im sure there is hundreds in there considering you lost 30 in such a short amount of time. My local disc shop claims to make more money on used discs than the new ones. Just think if 30 other people lost 30 discs, that's 900. Used esp or star discs can fetch $10 if they're in decent shape. In theory their could be tens of thousands of dollars laying around those hazards. My record water hazard disc dive was 52, and my friend had 49, 11 had numbers but only one guy came and got his disc. That's 100 discs, it was 50 degrees out and muck to your knees, but no real threat ( like gators or snakes). Good luck.

Losing plastic is part of the game. I am down about 6 or 8 in a year and a half. I play two courses with water and these are the only places they get lost. I just visit the marketplace to trade for and purchase backups so that I don't have the fear of losing my one and only. I also tend to get pink or orange discs so that I can spot them better if I play the shule-laden courses.

I lost a disc just yesterday. it was a DX Avair And i went for the ace run on a water hole(didn't realize there wasn't nearly as much land as there used to be there) and threw it in the water. normally i would of been in there searching but i was on my work break and in jeans so swimming in water was a no-go. But as for this season I've only lost 5 discs and 2 were on the same hole on a blind shot, and one I just left behind. So I've been doing a lot better this year the past few with a total of 20+

I have only lost 2 this year, but 1 was my $$$ red star destroyer. It was perfectly beat in, the stamp had worn off to give it that "ghost stamp" look.

I have been trying to beat in 2 new ones to replace it, but I still think about it every time I throw one of the new destroyers.

I have been lucky. I've lost, on average, about two a year. This may have less to do with my throwing and more to do with my persistence in finding that damn disc.

Sucks that I've lost some of my best discs.

In about a year of playing, I've lost 7 or 8. Considering that half the courses I've played are cut out of the middle of a forest, and I play a good amount of solo, I don't feel too bad about that. Meanwhile, I've found about 40 discs, mostly in the river at my local course. Maybe 6 or 7 of those I've been able to return, so, all in all, I'm up about 25 or so.

I've been playing about 5.5 years now and have lost 6 discs (gotten 2 back). Also, I've had 2 discs stolen. Overall I'm only down 3 discs as one of the lost ones, I'd found in the first place. Our local courses don't have a ton of bushes so it's fairly difficult to lose anything permanently.

But the last one wasn't my fault, brand new Champ Firebird, the color of leaves and pinestraw. When I said I wanted Orange, I just assumed neon bright orange, not autumn orange! Innova owes me for that one.

This made me laugh, but still your fault.

innova still owes you one though.

That speaks more to the difficulty of courses in this region than your ability. I would like to see some of these guys who never lose plastic play what you play on a regular basis.

Its also why I try to buy Pink discs!

That's crazy i've only lost two discs in the total time
i have played. I've gotten in plenty of water, climbed
more trees than i can count, been in the weeds for
hours.

Yes it does have some to do with the course
but it has most to do with how bad you really
want that disc back.

I've lost two since I started playing in July :( First was a champ leopard, my first driver. I lost it in the fairway because I forgot to pick it up after I threw my second shot. By the time I realized it was gone about two holes later, It was no longer there. the groups coming up behind us said they never saw it. :(

I just lost my second last night, Hole #23 at Ole Miss DGC. KC Pro Roc. I was throwing it and it was getting way dark, turned it over and it went into the treeline. I searched in the dark for about 20 min or so, but couldn't come up with it.

Discs do weird things when you're not watching them.
I've only lost one disc (so far), and this is exactly why. I threw a lousy tee shot, and turned to grab another disc before the first one had stopped. It must have rolled a mile or something :doh::wall:

In 2 years never lost a disc that I didnt just leave behind on accident throwing multiple shots per hole. Probably left behind 7-10. guess just lucky, I play at really wooded courses and a few have bad shule and water carry shots. I've played 30 courses too...

^^ I've done the same thing twice now. Just walked away with it on the course. I've never lost one otherwise, but I'm in a desert, with no water hazards, and very few trees. The only way to really lose one is to toss it over a wall into somebody's yard that isn't home (my buddy has done this 5 times now, and finally quit playing that course).

I rarely ever loose mine in water or weeds, but I have lost quite a few because I had a shot go deep in the bushes, and when I dig myself into the bush to make my next shot, I throw and try to run out of the bush to see where it goes, and I will forget to go back into the bush to get the original.

Does this ever happen to anyone else, or is it just me??????
