2017 Idlewild Open Aug. 17-19 Burlington, Ky

I think 18 is the best finishing hole of any DG course I've seen.
Great view around the basket,
so difficult,
so easy to get frustrated after a long day,
so easy to pile on strokes,
such a simple design really,
best finishing hole in DG, IMHO.

I'm actually a little proud of how I was able to pick up on the 'special-ness' of this hole as a rookie player five years ago, and my attempt at humorously pointing it out in my review.

not to downplay those "aces", but I am sure he is in practice mode and those were his 4th or 5th shots at the basket... just sayin

Yup. Buzzz, Buzzz, big hyzer. I ruined many rounds that could have been my personal best on hole 18 due to not being able to stay in the fairway.

Shusterick and Feldberg got a deuce on this hole in the KY State Doubles Championship when Will put his drive 14 feet from the basket.

was the basket accross the pond present at that time? it would be impossible to get over the pond off the tee and the pond is more than 14 feet from the basket, unless i am thinking about a different hole.

Nope, though I didn't see it personally, I know folks who did. He threw from the 2nd tee over the pond, within 14' of the long pin. Every time I play Idlewild, I stop and look at that tee, and marvel at the idea of even trying to get there!

Yes it was across the pond. I know the course well and he did through it from the only tee on that hole. He did lose one in the pond on Fri practicing the shot.

If you are wondering about coming here to watch this, I suggest you make plans to come to Cincinnati...

So is this the biggest tourney, in terms of bringing in the best pros since 98 worlds in the cincy area. Circa time of the Edgewood open at Mt.Airy one of the tour stops back in the 90s. Question mark...

One of my co-workers just mentioned they heard something about the tournament on the radio on their way into work. Pretty cool that they're getting some exposure!

I've been so excited about this event I did not even realize there is a world championships going on right now. I didn't even see a Masters Worlds thread on here.

live coverage is starting soon. Time to close the office door...

Watching a little live feed off and on while I'm wrapping up the days work. Just watched the feature MPO play through (orig) 4,5,6, and 7. Cool seeing how they attack the course. I've never thrown a forehand off the tee on 6 but to see McBeth put one almost to the opening of the second tunnel makes me want to try it.

Also, the course looks great on video.

Yep, I saw ya! Sorry to see Matt struggle today, but I think everybody recognized (& the announcers talked about it) how quickly Idlewild can cost even the best players a lot of strokes.

Still, and even with the rain and obvious humidity, the place looks really good. Thank You Bill Alich and Fred Salaz, plus everyone else who helped! The work showed on camera.

Shame I've got the new job and can't make it out there til Saturday :(

(ps: the new baskets are gorgeous).
