2019 PDGA Professional Disc Golf World Championships Aug 12-17

Stakes and string feels odd for an OB line. .

What if he lands OB by a inch and another player on the card throws a hit a stake and bends it back an inch so that the first throwers disc is now inside the string?

It looked like one of the stakes, the one where Emerson was squatting down was bent back

Likely call is made from the end result, unless they can see it well enough from the tee that the stake was bent enough to make a difference. If it was evident, and I was on the card, I would vie for OB, since the disc did establish position already once it came to rest. No different had a fox picked it up and moved it to parked.

Fun that a 984 rated player was one of two players in the field to have a Birdy on that hole. .

I think I agree with McBeth...that's the best dg hole I've ever seen. Conrad's birdie was incredible...would have loved to see what Tanner did.

Let´s hope Paul gets hole 12 today. . his only "problem" in R2.

but Both Paul and Emerson played Northwood "in the double digits" in R2, no one else did . .. if they can repeat that today. . . well then it´s X5

IMO, if they're going to use string like that, they need to secure it better to the ground so it can't be moved. Or it needs to be taught already so there is no slack for the players to play with.

Fortunate that even with the manipulation of the string, the call didn't change, so ultimately it doesn't matter.

The string is taught at the beginning but over the week it gets loose in spots. Each morning we do a quick check to see if there is anything obvious that has gotten loose. It varies from event to event whether players can restore the string (aka pull it taut) to it's original location or just deal with it wherever it is. For Worlds, we made it explicit the players must leave the green stakes exactly where they are, but can pull the string taut to determine IB/OB.

Paint OB lines!!

Yes painted lines don't move, mostly. But the grass gets bent over, it gets faded by the sun, rain, etc. Painted lines are also worse as they are less precise. Much harder to make close calls like that with paint than with a thin string.

Why was the creek on hole 8 at Eureka not lined?

Or at least 3 rounds at Northwood and only two at Eureka

Agreed. They should be finishing on Northwood, much more picturesque finishing holes and number 12. I hope they didn't make the call to use Eureka more based off live coverage alone.

You have to plan for 2K spectators for the final round of worlds, especially on a Saturday. It's just not possible to have 2K people following a group at a course like Northwood.

Does the live signal play a part of that? Of course. But it's not nearly the issue that the logistics of people cause.

That's really a shame...

OB should be measured where the stake enters the ground. Thus it does not matter if the stake gets bent or not. Gotta get better.

If i could make a discgolf course and had the budget i would have all the OB be defined by steel plates

It's one of the few negative consequences of growth.

Imagine 20 years ago saying "we have to do finals at a course that can handle 2,000 spectators."

You would have been put in a mental hospital.

There's plenty of negative consequences to growth and putting crowd sizes before quality disc golf is definitely high on the list.
