https://discgolf.ultiworld.com/2021/09/23/dgpt-tour-championship-announces-record-250000-purse/ - Looks like a new sponsor has signed on with the DGPT Championship.

Guaranteed Rate home mortgage has signed on as the title sponsor, and is helping them along to a $250,000 total purse and a $30,000 payout to each of the winners.

Wow, that is huge. Hopefully payouts like this entice more women to get into the sport. It would be great to start seeing 75-100 women sign up for the largest events.

By the way, this is next month, not in 2022

...and people though $20K was a lot for winning the event last year. If this kinda $$$$ don't attract players, I dunno what will.

Helluva way to wrap up the season.

That kind of money should attract FPO players. .. and they only have to play 2-3 rounds and still get payed the same.

Strange that we dont get more FPO players on tour, the money is ok
I think Hailey have made more that a player like Kevin J this year.
Feels like it easier for a top FPO player to make a living out of discgolf than it is for a MPO player

I hope Paul or Ricky wins so there will be a 100k winner on tour this season. It pales in comparison to their contracts (well, I hope it pales to Ricky's, but I don't know for sure), but I think it'd be a neat accomplishment.

Then again, if it doesn't happen this year it'll happen in the next 2-3.

Other than the 3 top European women who were frozen out by Covid for the most part what female players are there who are good enough to thrive on tour and haven't done it? Sarah Gilpin maybe... I feel like it is strange that there are as many FPO players touring as there are.

Hmm that Buhr kid is SLOW. . . i hope Nikko and Buhr will nerver be on a live card together, that round would never end

He actually got a time violation on hole 4. It was called by either Uli or Clemons or by an official following the card. Big Jerm seemed surprised that they actually called it.

I'm starting a new thread. I firmly believed that the proposed rule change on excessive time, was encouraged by the DGPT staff so that their TDs could make the calls.

It might not change the game at our lical events, but It'll speed things up in the DGPT.

Of course he was surprised. How many of these violations have been called in major events in our sports history? Even considering some players rather EGREGIOUS abuse of the rule?

I'd agree. Valerie ($15k) and Alexis Mandujano ($10k) are barely making enough to live on if that's their only income (according to Andrew Fish's analysis here: https://discgolf.ultiworld.com/2021/04/08/the-cost-of-touring-a-fuller-picture-pt-1/). It's not (they travel with their parents and Mason Ford). They are currently at 10th and 16th in the world rankings. So there are maybe 20 women in the world who can support themselves.

I know that some have contracts, endorsements, etc. that aren't accounted for in their PDGA winnings, but there aren't that many more that have enough endorsements coming in. For instance, Madison Walker has earned $6.5k in winnings this year. She's endorsed by Upper Park DG (which probably pays little), and she has a job with the DGPT. So she's an exception, but she also has underlying income that allows (requires) her to tour. I think a lot of the touring FPO players are in this situation where they have some other supplement to their income. They certainly aren't thriving outside of the top 5-10.

But still a player like Kona that is rated lower than 950 can make +$50k . .

I still think it easier for a new FPO player to get to that level than it is for a MPO player to get to a level where you can make +$50k a year in tournament payout.

If you look at the top 15 total money in 2021 5 of them are FPO players

I haven't done a "then vs. now" comparison, but purses have increased dramatically the last few years.

Makes you wonder how some of the touring FPO players like Elaine King, Des Reading, JK... were able to tour as long/much as they did back in the day. As said earlier, yeah they had contracts/sponsorships, but no way were those remotely as lucrative as today's deals.

With the sport being as niche as it was back then, how much product could an FPO player move for a sponsor?
